Visual Surveys

We’ve been undertaking visual inspections for Local Authorities for over 15 years. We operate a team of over 30 field based surveyors, who, armed with the latest collection software, years of experience and UKPMS accreditation are well equipped to carry out a variety of Visual Surveys.

Coarse Visual Inspection (CVI)

There are over 200,000 km unclassified roads in the UK. Despite this size and the variability of these roads surveying them doesn’t have to be difficult. Our Coarse Visual Inspection (CVI) surveys are an easy and effective way to collect condition data across large distances of road in a cost effective and timely manner.

Once we have collected your data, it can be analysed within UKPMS software, including our own MARCHpms. This can produce a variety of information such as national standard reports and maintenance scheme production which you can then look at in a simple mapping layer.

Detailed Visual Inspection (DVI)

Whether you walk, drive, cycle or get the train to work, the chances are at some point during your journey you will use a footway. Our Detailed Visual Inspection (DVI) surveys provide comprehensive information on the condition of your footways and can easily be extended to carriageways should you need it.

As with the CVI survey, once your data has been collected it can be loaded into a UKPMS system, allowing you to undertake analysis on your footways and identify the most cost effective maintenance schemes.

Footway Network Survey (FNS)

The new Transport Infrastructure Assets Code recommends you obtain condition data on your entire footway network, not just Category 1s and 2s.

So to help, the new Footway Network Survey has been launched. This survey offers you a fast and cost effective way to survey a large number of footways and in its enhanced form can also provide you with basic inventory data.

We’ve been working with TRL from the start to help hone the survey method and were the first survey organisation to accredit our surveyors and data capture software NotaVia for the survey.

The FNS fits in with the other UKPMS surveys so can be loaded and processed to help prioritise schemes on your footways.

Bespoke Visual Inspections

We’ve been around long enough to know one size doesn’t fit all. We understand our standard surveys might not offer you the flexibility or detail you are looking for. But that doesn’t mean we can’t help you. With our experience of visual surveying we can work with you to design and deliver a visual survey tailored to meet your needs.
