9 September 2011, Leamington Spa, UK: Yotta DCL, the UK’s leading highways surveying company, today announced it has signed a contract for 2011/2012 with Wakefield Council to carry out a video inventory survey of Wakefield’s A, B and C roads and a DVI survey. Yotta DCL has been providing inventory surveys to Wakefield since 2010 and is delighted to be strengthening this relationship.

The video survey will be carried out using one of Yotta DCL’s bespoke video capture vehicles which survey the roads at normal traffic speeds of up to 70mph and takes street level images. Video-based inventory surveys provide a number of benefits for Local Authorities including the fact they are fast, safe and cost effective and provide a visual record of the network. This allows Local Authorities to maximize the life of their assets, understand trends and better target their maintenance budget and schedule.

This new contract represents a new phase in Yotta DCL’s relationship with Cumbria County Council. Yotta DCL has not worked directly for the council before but has carried out Asset Inventory Surveys for Cumbria Highways, a partnership between Cumbria County Council, Amey and Connect Roads and which work together on behalf of the County Council. Under the terms of today’s agreement, Yotta DCL’s Scanner vehicles will carry out comprehensive condition surveys of approximately 4,784 miles (7,700km) of highway network, covering everything from major routes to minor rural roads.
