Yotta DCL achieve ISO 14001: 2004 Environmental Management Standard Certification

Highways surveyor shows continued commitment to environmental policies with ISO accreditation and carbon offset scheme

Leamington Spa, UK: Yotta DCL, the leading highways surveyor, today announced that it is the first surveying company in the UK to achieve ISO 14001: 2004 certification. This certification represents a core set of standards used by organisations for designing and implementing an effective environmental management system.

The ISO 14001: 2004 approach to environmental management requires taking a hard look at all areas within the business where activities have an environmental impact. It can lead to benefits such as reduced cost of waste management, savings in consumption of energy and materials, lower distribution costs and provides a framework for continual improvement in environmental performance.

“Very few companies of our size have achieved this environmental certification,” said Nick Smee, Managing Director at Yotta DCL. “My thanks to our expert consultants and to the Yotta DCL staff for their contribution towards this significant achievement.

“As part of our continued commitment to the environment, we have also started a carbon offset scheme,” explained Smee. “Each year trees will be planted for every local authority we have worked with. Our customers will receive a certificate to indicate that the carbon emissions from their survey have been offset.”

Over the coming weeks, Yotta will be planting 46 trees for the 2009/10 surveying year: offsetting approximately 46 tons of carbon emissions.

Dr Wendy Buckley from Carbon Footprint said “Our tree planting scheme provides a mechanism for businesses to reduce green house gas emissions in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. Yotta DCL is aware of the impact highways surveying has on the environment and it’s great to see a company making a significant contribution on behalf of their customers, and showing real commitment to helping our environment.”
